Breadcake, bap or barm?
Settling the bread roll argument, Leeds style.
Go twenty miles in any direction from Leeds and the word for a soft round roll changes. Bap in the south, barm cake in Lancashire, cob in the Midlands, stottie if you go far enough north.
Round here it's a breadcake. Ours are a soft white dough with a little milk and butter, dusted with flour and baked close together so the sides stay soft.
Ask for a breadcake at the hatch and you get a breadcake. Ask for a bap and Dave will still serve you, with a look.
